I'm going to keep this short, but I have mixed opinions on the idea of Microsoft having a 'whitelist only' scheme.
First, the pro. I think we all know this, no spyware, no viruses, etc.
Now the con. Who controls this whitelist? Will it be Microsoft (or a company working for Microsoft)? If this is the case, only the 'l33t' will know how to crack it in order to install some software. If it is like Debian's how will the normal user know how to add "mozilla.org" to the list? (Because we all know it won't be on there by default.) Either way, the normal user won't want to be bothered by it in order to install software. Everyone will be using IE because 'Windows blocks the installation of Firefox' and other issues.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this, just that I don't want to see Microsoft do this (that would be the side that wants to see more OSS on Windows) and I do want to see Microsoft do this (more people looking for other options.)
